1980’s This decade saw an increase in international relations and educational initiatives between the Faculty and other organizations worldwide, including projects in Kenya, Peru, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Malaysia.

1983 David C. Smith became Dean of the Faculty of Education.

1982 Due to social and political changes taking place in Quebec, in particular the effects of Bill 101 and a decline in the English population of Quebec, enrolment in some education programs experienced a decline of up to 80 percent from the 1976 level.

1984 The Centre for Cognitive and Ethnographic Studies, and the Laboratory for Applied Cognitive Studies were established.  A PhD program in Educational Psychology was also approved.

1986 The Centre for Educational Leadership (CEL) was established, providing professional development for educators.

1989 Teacher-training programs were provided for Cree and other First Nations communities.
